Job Boards and Pizza Sauce

Feb 25, 2010 / Product & App Reviews / Trackback

Sometimes I feel like the National Enquirer® has captured the essence of humanity and people thrive on sensationalism because it’s exciting and sexy.

My personality type doesn’t appreciate the drama so many others seem to live for. So, when I hear melodramatic statements like HR is Dead and Job Boards Are Dead they affect me as much as Jesus in Pizza Sauce in NEPA.

However, while watching the video – kind of using it as a vehicle for meditation, a job board acronym was revealed to me.

Job Opportunity Bottle-necked Beyond Our Ability to Reach it Directly

They’re not dead per se… maybe a little like stale pizza crust though, and most job boards are filled with scam bam thank you ma’am junk. You don’t know who is behind the postings and you don’t know if they are even real.

What is a job seeker to do? Well… network with company representatives/vendors via LinkedIn and niche ning sites, follow my list of Twitter HR/Recruiters, let all your friends and contacts know you are searching (and attach a resume to that email), go to networking events, painfully take the time to visit company website employment pages.. those are all things to do.

Or, you could check out LINKUP.

All of our jobs come directly from company websites. Almost any company, big or small, that has a career section on their website can be found on LinkUp. Currently, we have over 20,625 companies in our database that we monitor every night. Companies range in size from the largest to the smallest, and from all locations across the United States.

LINKUP goes quietly in the night like Santa’s little elves out into cyberspace visiting company website job boards and gifts the aggregated results to the United States of America.

Company job boards are still fresh….. If you are a Corporate Recruiter be sure to see if your company’s postings are on LINKUP.

P.S. If you are a non-profit check out the March 2010 promotion for all services FREE.

Note: My personality type is INTP in case you weren’t going to be able to sleep tonight without knowing.

Hi Karla,
I am a coprorate recruiter with 30+ open positions on my corporate website. I ran a simple search (http://www.linkup.com/results.php#l=44114&c=Dea…) and every one of the 4 jobs returned has been closed for weeks/months. They're tracking an ATS that I transitioned away from several months ago and claiming they “verified 1 hour ago”. None of my current jobs show in the search. Is this site a sorry remake of Flipdog or whatever it was called?

Suggestion to job seekers: Stick with Indeed.com
Frank

Hi Frank,

First, the jobs are now updated on LinkUp.comhttp://www.linkup.com/results.php#l=44114&c=Dea… – if you (or anyone) ever has any issues with the site or sees that we're displaying any outdated information, feel free to email support@linkup.com or call my directly at 952-277-4539. I'm a tech-guy, so you won't get any sales pitches from calling me. My job is to make sure that the site meets all the needs of employers and jobseekers, and I take that responsibility very seriously.

Second, for your search against Indeed (http://www.indeed.com/jobs?q=company%3A%28Deale…), they show only 9 of your jobs while we show 13. Also only 1 of those 9 goes straight to your site, the others go through Monster & JobFox before a jobseeker is actually able to get to you.

Finally, when we say “Verified 1 Hour Ago”, we mean that the link we're using still works – which it did. You had previously partnered with a 3rd party service to help spread your job openings (you can see that feed at http://bit.ly/c8XAuK). You may want to contact that provider to make sure that you aren't missing out on jobseekers who happen across your old job listings on other sites.

If you have any questions, you can call me at the number above or email me directly – eric@linkup.com.

Eric-Thanks for taking the time to look into the erroneous links previously posted on your site. I also ran an expanded search to verify that you're now scraping all current open positions from dealertire.com (excluded the 44114). Linkkup is now live with our jobs. woohooo.

For your 2nd point, I'll take that up with Indeed peeps tomorrow. That's busted, bro.

For your point 3 “Verified 1 Hour Ago”, don't go gettin' legal on my ass. Verified means verified. If you want to place fine print under the text on YOUR site that says “Verified 1 Hour Ago”, that's cool. I know what verified means to me, and following that old link was definitely not verified.

Thanks again for the follow-up to my rant. I appreciate Karla hunting you down, and your timely response. We'll begin to track and validate numbers from your site (to the extent we're able), and I'll keep your contact info handy if needed.

Looks closer to Frank Zappa to me.
Music should perhaps be Peaches en Regalia.

In any event, great post as usual, providing one more arrow in the job seeking quiver.
