Do Temps Get the Shaft?

Feb 14, 2010 | Comments

Are temporary workers as valuable as regular ones? Should they be treated as well as regular ones? Is there a stigma attached with being a "temp"? Maybe here is something deeper going on than meets the eye. Maybe part of it is what is going on internally when you don't want to be a "temp" you want to be a "regular".

We Can Haz Equal Pay

Jan 24, 2010 | Comments

I read a comment by someone on Lipstick Discussions on ere community that women aren't complacent or submissive, we just grew weary of the fight in a world where testosterone rules. It's been 19 years since a government commission set out to investigate the theory of a glass ceiling and 15 years since they came back with a thick report saying what we all knew to be true. Why don't they put rocket scientists in charge? After all, they can put men and women on the moon.,..

You Be The Judge

Jan 12, 2010 | Comments

Who wouldn't understand feeling leery of hiring a person who did jail time? All kinds of things cross your mind and you might be questioning trust, ethic and responsibility. Maybe you prefer to not open a potential can of worms... But, how fair is it to be a person that has fulfilled a debt to society only to remain barred from meaningful reintegration and forced to carry around a stigma they can't shake?

"This is a practice email so I can see if it really works and I don't bother anyone else. So far I have only sent them to my husband's computer.... I want to see if they work here." - Senior Aid learning to use technology

Ex-Offender Vick = Eagles = Whatever

Aug 14, 2009 | Comments

Ex-offender does his time, gets out of jail and gets hired to go back to work. He is no longer a burden to society. I'm glad about that no matter how horrific the crime. The paparazzi is all over it. What did they expect, that Michael Vick would go to work at the local mini-mart as a cashier?

DSL™ — The New Professional Credential

Aug 08, 2009 | Comments

Oh yeah, it's an alphabet world out there in employmentville. They have certifications and licenses and initials to go with them for everything it seems. Human Resources, Project Management, Physicians, Attorneys, everyone who studied something seems to have a set after their name. There's a new kid in town, DSL is the new professional credential.

The World is Full of Ballerinas

Jul 25, 2009 | Comments

It's true, life is a stage. But if every little girl that dreamed of being a ballerina really became one, Recruiters would have a difficult time filling all those other really necessary positions. We dream as children and then we're brought down from the clouds by the reality of the teenage years that most likely we are not going to the academy of fine arts, we are going to school for B.S. .. oops I forgot the article "a". I meant go to school for a B.S. Don't be upset with me Mrs. Cronauer, that was a joke.

50 is the New 30

Jul 18, 2009 | Comments

New terms like recareering and 2nd life passions are creeping into employment lingo. Recently, someone confided in me that he would like to return to work for someone else but he's 50 and who's going to hire him? This is all befuddling to my sexy 28 year old mind but I'm going to take a shot at it.

So, Why are there 2.6 Million Jobs Available in the US?

Jul 11, 2009 | Comments

A great friend of mine forwarded me the new Business Week blog post by Peter Coy. I’m grateful because he left some things unsaid. I agree it would be super cool to be a Wine & Cheese Sommelier or Art Auctioneer on a cruise ship but I had one of those “the cheese smells in Denmark” moments thinking
